HVACR Refrigeration Engineer

REPORTS TO

Chief Engineer, Second Engineer

 

1.                                         SUMMARY

Maintains all refrigeration and air conditioning equipment on board.

 

2.                                         ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintaining the ships main refrigeration plant and all other refrigeration machinery onboard (including condenser and strainer cleaning);

Maintaining the main air conditioning chiller units and hospital air conditioning plant and all other units onboard (including cleaning strainers and heat exchangers);

Maintaining required log books and keeping proper records of maintenance carried out in the Company's planned maintenance system;

Ensuring adequate supply of refrigerant gas, refrigerant lubricating oil and spare parts onboard as well as ensuring that refrigeration tools are kept in good working order and in good supply;

Maintaining spares cabinets and spare parts therein and refrigeration store room and tools therein;

Maintaining the air handlers, including the cleaning of air handlers filters in the vent stations;

Maintaining chilled water, condenser circulation, and sea water air conditioning pumps;

Standing watch in the machinery spaces if required, in according to Certificate of Competency capacity;

Understanding the Company Safety Management System as it applies to the responsibilities of this position.

 

3.                                         QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

 

3.1.                                 LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to effectively communicate in clear English.

 

3.2.                                 CERTIFICATES / LICENSES / EXPERIENCE

Appropriate training and experience in refrigeration and air conditioning systems.

Certificate of Competency according to STCW 95 Section A-III/1 preferred but not required

 

4.                                         WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, extreme heat, and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud enough to require continuous wearing of hearing protection.
