Job Description
Authority
• The Mechanical Superintendent may direct any member of his team
• The Mechanical Superintendent may direct any Chief Engineer, master officer or crew member on any issue regarding mechanical, maintenance and repair of equipments while noting Master’s overriding authority onboard
• The Mechanical Superintendent may correspond with the Clients on any contractual, operational or mechanical issues.
Reporting Relationships
The Mechanical Superintendent reports to the Technical Manager. The Mechanical Superintendent has a cooperative relationship through his Technical Manager with HSE Department, Human Resources Department, Procurement Department and Project Clients.
Responsibilities
• The Mechanical Superintendent provides a cost effective service for the Operation of the DP Vessels during the project.
• Create an environment of continuous improvement
• Identify, manage and monitor risks
• Advise on the operations and maintenance of specific equipments
• Liaise closely with the vessels’ chief engineer and masters to ensure the vessels hulls, machinery and equipment are operated efficiently and maintained in good condition;
• Ensure that accident and incidents are reported and investigation and corrective actions taken;
• Ensure that the vessels in all aspects comply with the requirements of Classification Society and Government Regulations and hold valid trading and survey certificates at all times
• Ensure the compliance of the vessels to the ISM Code within his area of responsibility and assist with the investigation of incidents
• To identify opportunities to improve facilities to increase customer service and company value
• Ensure to have a good working relationship with the client

• The ability to effectively manage a task assigned to him by the Technical Manager.
• Able to communicate effectively and articulately at all levels
• Demonstrate excellent management of mechanical and marine operations especially on all contractual issues.
• Understanding, implementation and compliance with all applicable International Rules, Regulations, Legislation, Codes, Guidelines, Standards and Specifications
• Total commitment to, and leadership of, the SMS
• Effective motivation of all staff (at sea and ashore) to execute their activities in a professional manner in accordance with the SMS
• Identification and implementation of continuous improvement opportunities for the SMS
Knowledge, Skills & Ability Required
• Knowledge of contractual issues and implications
• Pleasant disposition with the capability to be authoritative when necessary.
• Clear and effective oral and written communication skills in English language.
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of principle discipline and peripheral subjects.
• Strong co-ordination, organisation and liaison skills with the ability to seek and gain consensus solutions to complex issues.
• Thorough knowledge of the contract in all it aspects
Experience and Education
• Qualified Mechanical Engineer preferrably with onshore and offshore experiences
• Onshore experience in project team
• Knowledge of charter party’s and all contractual clauses
• Experience in in contractual relations with the client position
• Experience on DP3 vessels, perferrably with similar DP systems
• Knowledge ISM/ISPS certification
HSEQ Roles and Responsibilities
• Lead by example in demonstrating the correct behavior in implementing all HSE programmers.
• Recognize the ‘ownership' of health, safety and environmental control within their sphere of activity and lead by example. Require reporting Supervisors to demonstrate effective control over health, safety and environmental responsibilities.
• Meet or exceed company and regulatory requirements and strive for continuous improvement. Ensure implementation of strategies through Performance and Results program.
• Ensure that a chain of command exists whereby responsibility and authority for safety matters are clearly determined, documented and understood.
• Make arrangements for the necessary training, including induction training, of all personnel under their control in the safe working procedures relevant to their activities. Ensure that all staff under their control are adequately qualified and experienced for the jobs they undertake.
• Include health and safety objectives in job appraisal systems within their area of responsibility.
• Ensure arrangements are in place for the coordination and control of Sub-Contractor activities.
• Provide working conditions, which are justified as maintaining acceptable levels of safety and a healthy environment for all operations. Ensure all relevant workplace safety inspections etc take place.
• Ensure that the relevant risk assessments are undertaken and reviewed. Ensure and maintain all safeguards and controls as required by the Safe System of Work / Risk Assessment.
• Ensure that there is adequate provision and necessary allocation of time for Health, Safety and Environmental management.
• Communicate HSE Policy and Processes to supervisors and staff. Maintain effective consultation in respect of Health, Safety and Environmental management. Include Health, Safety and Environment as an agenda item in all meetings. Attend HSE meetings.
• Take action in accordance with the Company disciplinary procedures for those who are negligent in failing to follow established safety and environmental procedures or misuse equipment provided for their health and safety.
