Project Manager - Installation Services


UTC Power is a proven, single-source provider of clean power solutions. As one of the newest members of the United Technologies Corp. family, UTC Power is able to draw on the expertise of some of the more established divisions, including the industry leaders in fuel cell technology and building heating, cooling and control systems.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing multiple customer projects related to UTC Power's on-site power products portfolio. Responsibilities will include end-to-end management of UTC Power's installation services role in these projects related to site/facility integration and interconnection of on-site power solutions, including:

Support of the up-front project proposal activity, to include:

  1. coordination with UTC Power sales team to confirm the deliverable bill-of-materials that meets the proposed project scope of supply; and;
  2. identification, specification, and securing quotes for special equipment, site-specific engineering, and 3rd party services required for the job;
  3. Development of ROM turnkey design and installation estimates for budgetary proposals. This will include developing a Scope of Work document that supports the cost estimates.
Support of the project implementation activity, to include:
  1. coordination with customer's architectural and/ or engineering firm(s) to ensure UTC Power's products are properly designed into the site;
  2. identification of UTC Power engineering requirements to address site-specific needs and coordinate work as needed;
  3. coordination with customer's general contractors to ensure on-schedule delivery and proper installation of UTC Power's equipment into the customer's site; and;
  4. management of turnkey installations when undertaken by UTC Power.
In addition, the Project Manager will maintain all project documentation. Project Manager performance will be measured relative to quality execution of planned work scope to schedule and budget requirements, and also by rigor and discipline shown in re-planning and re-negotiating effectively in the face of customer driven changes in work scope.
  • BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering; MS preferred MBA a plus;
  • Professional Engineering Certificate and/or Project Management Training Certification preferred
Successful candidate will have project management experience with proven capability of bringing commercial projects in on cost and schedule. Project field experience with distributed generation equipment in the commercial building sector, or with large HVAC equipment, is preferred, and project field experience with larger power generation equipment such as gas turbines or reciprocating engines will also be considered relevant.

Candidate must have mechanical or electrical engineering background, and have field experience working both the design-phase of construction with architects and engineers, and the installation phase of construction with general contractors.

Specific experience and demonstrated capabilities should include:
  • Proficiency in coordinating and interfacing with general contractor and other construction trades;
  • Proficiency in understanding and working with plans and specifications and reconciling contract scope with same;
  • Proficiency in reviewing, understanding, and assessing completeness of detailed construction drawings in terms of design detail, and accuracy of detail against project and specifications and requirements;
  • Material and labor estimating for commercial construction projects
Candidate must possess strong leadership skills, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to bring together ad-hoc multi-disciplinary teams and lead them through issue identification and resolution. Although this position will not be expected to perform design functions, experience with AutoCAD is a plus. Candidate must be a mature self starter capable of executing responsibilities in an independent manner.
