This person oversees and coordinates project teams on national and international field projects while conducting condition assessment evaluations, remaining-life determinations, and fitness for purpose evaluations. Person also provides appropriate recommendations for the removal of samples and sections for laboratory cause and origin determinations and/or repair of the equipment or component that has failed. This involves the follow through will all stages of the laboratory examinations and testing as well as the engineering report.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following but are not limited to:
Metallurgical and mechanical engineering evaluations and failure analysis of various types of industrial related equipment including power and process piping systems, steam and gas turbines, boilers, pressure vessels, storage tanks, controls.
Field and lab nondestructive testing.
Field repair welding and heat treating projects
Technical report writing
Qualifications:
Experience with the requirements of major codes including ASME, AW, API, NBIC, ASTM Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and AutoCAD
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
BS in Engineering Some hands on experience in a plant environment Nondestructive and welding experience Experience in the operation and maintenance of boilers, turbines, and ancillary equipment.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
English: Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
College math necessary. Basic arithmetic, multiplication, algebra, geometry, calculus and physics needed.
REASONING ABILITY:
Excellent reasoning ability is a must. This person is required to often exercise independent judgment-although management consultation is available.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Second Class Fireman license preferred
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to lift, carry, reach and be on two feet for a long period of time.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
In the field in power plants up to 50%. Office administrative work up to 50%
*A wide range of travel is required, particularly during outage seasons (fall and spring).
